Travelling to Albania, Covid-19 rules and entry protocol
Travelling to Albania, Covid-19 rules and entry protocol
We all know that Covid has affected the way we used to travel. Two years ago we needed just a passport and sometimes a visa and we could go wherever we liked, but as we all know times have changed and there are new steps and restrictions when you visit another country.
The protocol to visit Albania
Like all the other countries Albania has some types of protocol that needs to be followed if you want to enter Albania, but unlike other states, once you are in Albania there are little to no Covid restrictions.
Below you will find the protocol for when you are entering through air, land or sea.
For all citizens transiting through the territory of Albania by land or who travel by sea:
Starting from 6th September, all the travellers who enter the Republic of Albania must meet one of the following three conditions:
- Have a vaccination passport, where at least two weeks have passed from the date of full vaccination, or:
- Have a negative PCR test within 72 hours or a rapid antigen test within 48 hours, or:
- Have proof of passing Sars-Cov2 infection, which is valid for up to 6 months after healing.
These rules are also valid for those travellers transiting through Albania.
Children up to 6 years old are not subject to these rules.
Albanian citizens who are residents in Albania, who return to Albania and do not have one of the above documents, must self-isolate for 10 days and inform the health authority to get a Covid test at the end of the isolation period.
Citizens travelling by air and using one of the International Airports for transit should know that:
Only certificates and test results issued in English by a medical professional or public authority will be accepted.
Vaccination Certificate (e.g. “CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Card” or Medical Certificate):
Inoculation with BioNtech/Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, or Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines.
For the vaccine to be counted, you should have the two doses of the vaccines. The exception is Johnson& Johnson, which requires only one dose for full effect.
Persons, who have only received the first dose of those vaccines will have to present either a negative PCR or rapid/antigen test for SARS-CoV-2 with the sample taken no earlier than 72 hours (PCR) or 48 hours (rapid/antigen) prior to entering Albania.
Life inside Albania
These were the rules for entering Albania. Once you are inside the territory of Albania life goes on normally. You can go to different bars, restaurants, clubs etc. There are no restrictions. The entering protocol requires all the necessary documents stated above, but once you are in is all worth it. Come to Albania and enjoy the beauties of this country, while staying safe from Covid, because in Albania 42.62% of the population is vaccinated (data from https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations)
